Hometown Boys

Hometown Boys is an editorial that I produced for my final semester of university. The editorial consists of 18 still images from five different photoshoots in addition to the introductory moving image work above.

The models for this piece (in order of appearance) are:

Dan.P

Jonah.H

Bob.H

George.S

Daniel.S

Hometown Boys focuses around menswear and the title for this piece comes from all of the models being photographed in their own hometowns.

Why I Created Hometown Boys

I wanted to create a piece of work that focused around menswear and the first photoshoot I produced for this series was with Dan.P (images 1, 4, 5, 8, 15, & 17) and the rest of the images I created for this editorial were inspired by those initial images.

I took a lot of inspiration from the composition and technical aspects of street and documentary photography to create this editorial. And as a result of this the majority of these images were captured using either a 35mm or a 50mm prime lens.

Exhibiting Hometown Boys

A collection of my images from Hometown Boys was exhibited at Leeds Arts University’s 2024 Undergraduate show “Beyond The Frame”.

Artist Statement:

“Hometown Boys is a collection of images inspired by street and documentary style photography with a focus on masculinity and identity. All the models in this project were photographed in their hometowns and the images incorporate ties to the lives and interests of the individuals in addition to their geographical location. The influence of street photography can be seen throughout these images as many were taken using either a 35mm or 50mm lens. I have a close personal connection with this project having chosen to work with models who are either family or close friends and this decision has allowed me to develop my own style as an image maker in addition to being able to capture the models in ways that reflect them authentically.”
